This arc is kind of oda's take on the idea of "waking up after a serious blackout" kinda story where a bunch has happened and now the strawhats have to remember everything they did while they were drunk. When the villagers are talking about who they are going to report to, they're literally going to talk to luffy who they already met. Another thing, regarding the giant cat, we see it transform from a lion back into a cat, so it seems there's some property that affects the island. I feel like it might be some kind of devil fruit where people get stronger when they beat someone up. The cat beats up usopp? Cat becomes a lion. The monster trio beat the up lion? It's been defeated so it goes back to being a cat. Maybe the reason the crew is separated is cause oda wrote elbaf a long, long time ago and he wants to follow certain elements of his original script.
