The first half of this chapter was pure anxiety. Watching the hostage children unknowingly walking toward the hole in the sea clouds was torture. But the thing that really made my blood boil was Sommers. His line about how "it’s fine if they die" because they can "just kidnap another group" has to be one of the coldest, most vile villain lines we’ve had in a while. It perfectly sets the stakes—these guys are irredeemable.

Then, the scene with the families? Devastating. Realizing they couldn't stop the trance/march and deciding to just hug their kids and fall with them? I was tearing up. It felt like a classic tragic One Piece flashback moment, but happening in real-time.

THE Reveal But then... LOKI.

I actually screamed. We’ve been theorizing about Loki’s powers for so long, and the payoff was worth it. Him swooping in and catching everyone mid-air was incredible, but the transformation? A massive black dragon?

The chapter explicitly doesn't name the fruit yet, but the design sounds terrifying and majestic. It completely flips the script on his character. He went from this chaotic, bound prince to a legitimate guardian deity in one panel.

That Final Spread The ending is going to be iconic. We’ve got:

1. Loki in full Black Dragon form.

2. Luffy in Gear 5 (of course).

3. Ragnir in... squirrel form?! Riding on Loki’s head!

The visual contrast between a goofy rubber god, a terrifying black dragon, and a squirrel ready to throw hands with the MMA monsters is peak One Piece. I don't know how the MMA monsters survive this.

Verdict Chapter 1174 had everything: hateable villains, emotional stakes, a massive lore reveal (Loki’s form), and a "God Tier" double-page spread to end it. The break week is going to be painful after this one.

The way imu speaks of gunko makes me think they see her as a possession of theirs. I wonder if their desire for vivi is to enforce a contract upon her? Im not sure if im alone on this one but the solution to some problems were so cheap by oda. I usually never complain about chapters or stuff but the way how the shs were released or how the kids were "Saved" by coincidentally destroying the ship feels pretty convenient. Its a sour taste after the backstory and im aware oda does this from time to time, but these ones were so dirty. The whole god of destruction thing, I think that might just be how kids see the story the parents tell of nika. A kids imagination is so more vived than grownups and they don't understand everything fully yet. Imagine they say something like: "Nika then freed all the slaves and destroyed the entire nation". The kids are not going to focus on the freeing part, all they hear and imagine is nika destroying an entire nation.  Zoro's plan got hyped up in the last one, but we basically see him cutting the giants only from afar and then dorry and broggy just one shot each other parallels.

I'm not down on gunko being yet another princess (patricidal this time, spicy, I wonder if that might have something to do with how harald ended up ooooooh) and her encounter with brook feels... Off. Like it seems shockingly easy how he broke the curse of imu for a while considering how hard of a hold it had on others like xebec and harald. Also I'm really starting to think oda just likes drawing impact lightning, no way imu used acoc on a shield and didn't pulverize it. I like brook having a cool moment though, his speech is nice even if his connection with gunko does feel a bit eh

Aside from that I liked sommers the triple giant cannon, but holy shit, oda please give usopp some screentime that isn't him being a joke or getting his shit kicked in for no reason, I'm begging you. No one's even reacting to him anymore, so he's just in the background doing poses while everyone else strategizes, it's painful to look at and feels completely ooc for him to just ignore the danger his friends are in right now. He should be the most troubled by what's happening along with robin, but he's just been a loud spectator the whole time I hope this is meant to go somewhere because as of right now, this is some of the worst we've seen of usopp and it breaks my heart.

My guess is gunko was controlled by imu to kill her own dad, then had her name changed once she was inititated into a celestial dragon Imu in turn seems quite possessive of gunko, as in a lovers jealousy kind of possesivenes Low key despite not having done much if anything at all, the fact that usopp was able to see ange slip away from this far away shows that at the very least his eyesight is still putting in work, his marksmanship is the one lacking some action Sanji made it quite fast to nami and robin, must have used his patented lady radar, since he was supposed to be going towards the library and school Gokoku sovereignty still slaps every time it is unleashed, what a classic attack, it is probably even more iconic that some of the moves from the main crew itself, when was the last time chopper used Sommers showing us why he was unable to capture baby shanks for almost 20 years straight, he is just so competent and good at his job!! 

 

There's something wonderfully ironic about dorry and broggy taking each other out. Or tragically ironic if they end up dying here. They spend a century fighting each other, away from elbaf, never getting the upper hand. They finally settle their differences and return home... Only to be turned and cut each other down. I'm getting the vibe from gunko's eventual backstory that she unwillingly killed her father after being controlled by imu much like harold. However, she never had anyone to protect her character after being controlled.

Imu must have done this before (possessing a king, push a country to ruin, take over the king's child). In theory, it may have been a kingdom that brook was serving, from his backstory, that got wiped out by gunko who gave permission to imu to possess her to 'save her kingdom', but ended up killing her father instead and putting it to ruin. 

 

Brook may have only have part of the story, which is why there is mixed animosity between them both. Imu tried the same thing with hearld and elbaph, but did not predict that shanks and gaban would be around to help and that loki had successfully eaten the devil fruit and wielded the treasure of elbaph. This would be an opposite result of gunko/brook. This may also infer that gunko's heritage may be a bloodline that is special, like the three eyes or ancient giant's blood. Brook isnt always a main fighter but he always manages to pull off some crazy maneuvers. Saved the sunny at dressrosa from that art lady, mvp of whole cake island, first one to fight an emperor, supported robin through her battle with black maria and now is the first one to fight imu and will likely be important to gunko freeing herself from them.

I am of the belief that most of our characters will only get one more real power-up and it'll be in the final war. Maybe usopp will get something here in elbaf, maybe franky will do something with the adam tree, but I think brook will maybe go the opposite way here. I think in general we will probably leave elbaf with some sort of failures, but learning. 

 

We will most likely find out how the regeneration works, but maybe one of the kids (looking at you, colon) will end up being taken after all. Maybe brook will find out what happened to gunko and her dad back in the day and he will feel guilty for not being able to save her (yet). And that will push him to awaken the fruit for the final war. Brook is the mvp, literally doing the worm to move while tied up and nothing but bones. And everything's on fire. Gunko's real name is "Shuri", then. From what it sounds, I think she was the princess of the "Certain kingdom" that brook was the leader of the battle convoy for.

They won't have pluto, poseidon or elbaf but the mother flame/uranus and even the red line serpent will prove to be enough of a challenge for the united armies of the world. Have/can attain before the final battle. We haven't actually seen imu in battle yet, just remotely-controlled bodies with other powers. The base imu is likely significantly stronger and probably can counter the levels of haki we've seen from gaban, loki, etc. We're going to need to see luffy get up to joyboy level of haki in order to even stand a chance in the ring against base imu. Blackbeard likely attains a third devil fruit (maybe even imu's) and becomes just shy of unstoppable...Except for his reliance on devil fruit upgrades and not haki upgrades. 

 

That seems like the obvious angle for that battle: haki vs devil fruit and haki wins out since it can "Punch" through the darkness devil fruit and actually hurt him. Thanos took on iron man, thor, and captain america successfully in endgame. The single villain being "Just that powerful" can still be compelling and fun to watch. Gunko/shuri almost certainly got domi reversi'd into killing her dad and then brainwashed to this day. I imagine brook is going to begin to sus out how to undo domi reversi without having to kill the victim, thus continuing his mvp streak.

Maybe she was tricked like harald and became a covenant willingly? After that, imu started showing his true colors. Brook was a royal court knight, gunko's dad was probably the king of were brook is originally from, after he died he escaped and became a pirate, it would make sense. Loki's own sovernity attack would be crazy as hell. Hope hajrudin and loki do one together. I'm aware of the current difference in power but it'd be sick. I wasn't expecting brook to hate gunko! Does look like imu is controlling the current arrows. Maybe breaking her free from imu's control will be enough. No wonder imu's plan ist to just flood the world. If push comes to shove, he/she literally has zero competent people on their side. Can't stop a transmission, can't convince a giant to join them/fail to kill him, can't keep enemies out of marie geoise, can't even abduct a bunch of children. While I trust oda, I kind of worry about the final war as I don't know if we will have enough competent villains unless bb somehow teams up with imu. 

 

Marineford worked so well because we had a lot of interesting characters on both sides. For the final war, we will most likely have a lot of characters do really cool shit on our side. I am guessing we will have royal families and armies from alabasta, fishman island, dressrosa, wano, elbaf and more join in. So luffy will have the strawhats, dragon, the revolutionaries, shanks, mihawk, garp, sword and armies from various countries on his side. Those together should overpower the world government easily. I think oda really needs to speedrun more villains because I really hope the last war isn't just fighting against turned friends the entire time. I want all out battles between people like akainu and sabo. Or the elders/gk vs the strawhats. But who will everybody else fight against? Just weak, unnamed marines? Or just friends that have been domi reversi'd? I really hope not, that would take away a lot of the intensity behind it if most characters will fight with their hands tied behind their back because they do not want to kill their allies. I would actually like that. It would show that even the biggest villains arent powerful because they themselves are powerful, but because people believe they are, essentially leading them to "Preemtive censorship", and policing themselves. The system will have been designed in a way where the people are turned against each other, while the seemingly strong (but in reality weak) elite sits on the top of the world laughing at them. Only by uniting as one common people they can work together to overthrow the corrupt elite.

Maybe her kingdom was imu’s original homeland and she resembled someone they once knew? My guess is because her hair is blue, she reminded imu of lili and therefore wants to possess/own her. Something like that came to my mind. So gunko is basically if loki had joined the god's knights? As in, her story is meant to mirror loki's? I would not be surprised if she didn't kill her father or was forced to kill him. Gunko's father must be the king that brook served all those years ago. Iirc he was a knight in some kingdom in west blue. Dorry and broggy already have a tactic with regeneration. They still have that synergy between them after being domi reversi'd. 

 

 Sommers must be shitting his pants. I feel like it would be better if this theme of hubris continues with holy knights. I want some kind of contrast with this hubris and actual confidence of our heroes plus it serves a comedic purpose. I think it’s important to note that he has used this attack twice before now, once against surume the kraken, and once against prometheus on the rooftop. Its great to see that even though he has been around for awhile, summers is just an idiot. Imu saw that vile personality and gave him a life contract, little did mu know that, it was all summers had going for him.

However, it seems that as her erased memories resurface it basically disrupts the whole thing. I think it's more akin to possession, or at least it feels that way when she can grab the wheel of control by hearing brooks voice. The only bad thing about onepiece changing formats is that now I have to wait so long to find out what voice I have to hate when thinking of summers.

Seriously, this guy is so fun, I love to hate him. Evil, incompetent, sleazy and a cool design. True but it's for the best oda just can't go at the speed he used too anymore so the bigger the gap toei has from the manga the better. I personally don't think the padding's been that big of an issue but at the same time this will let them fix that too for people who do hate that. Plus it gives animators more time to work on stuff for elbaf.

Take away sommer's immortality and I think he would have been a good fight for luffy in the early grand line part. But it's clear that against actual emperor crews and they fold a lot easier. Which is probably why oda had imu show up. In one-on-one fights, they'd probably fold against luffy, zoro, and sanji. They're literally all nepo babies. Kids of wealth families who got their devil fruits and immortality handed to them on a silver platter. Once they actually have to put in effort they get extremely flustered. 

 

First we heard of them was that they were deployed against rebellious kingdoms, not against high risk threats like pirates or the revolutionaries. My guess is they never really have to fight actual opponents that can match them on a regular basis. They have powerful devilfruits and immortality, but were never send against an emperor as far as we know. Seems like they are a propaganda tool, veiled threat and not actually used to fight others than normies They are paper tigers high on their own supply.
