Saint Sommers of the Shepherd Family

Saint Sommers of the Shepherd Family is a World Noble and elite member of the Knights of God, serving as a major antagonist during the Elbaph Arc.

Appearance

Sommers cuts an imposing figure as a tall, muscular elderly man. His most distinctive features include a bulbous nose, shaggy ginger body hair, and long orange-blonde hair styled in pigtails. His short beard is uniquely shaped into a crucifix below his mouth, and his left arm bears an elaborate tattoo. He alternates between plain glasses for casual wear and red-tinted sunglasses during official missions.

Official Attire

His Knights of God uniform is both ornate and militaristic:

  • A purple tunic fastened with gold strings, adorned with multiple medals and a rose pinned to the left breast
  • The tunic's open upper torso reveals part of his chest
  • Long white gloves and thigh-high purple boots
  • A white armband on his left arm displaying the Knights of God insignia
  • An elaborate black and red cape with a furry collar and epaulets
  • Four pentagrams decorating various spots on his attire
  • A belt buckle featuring the Hoof of the Soaring Dragon flanked by feathered wings
  • A sword with a thorn-shaped guard secured by a shoulder sash

When first summoned, he appeared partially undressed in a light-colored undershirt, dark briefs with heart-shaped polka dots, and his military cape.

In his youth, Sommers wore standard glasses and was clean-shaven, revealing a cross mark on his chin.

Powers and Abilities

Authority and Combat Prowess

As a World Noble, Sommers wields virtually unlimited authority and can summon an Admiral at will. However, his position in the Knights of God indicates he's far from dependent on such protection. He demonstrated overwhelming combat capability on Elbaph, effortlessly defeating former Vice Admiral Saul without sustaining any damage and later subduing Nico Robin with ease.

Despite his formidable strength, Sommers has clear limitations against the world's elite fighters—both Scopper Gaban and a younger Silvers Rayleigh defeated him handily.

Devil Fruit: Iba Iba no Mi

Sommers consumed the Iba Iba no Mi, a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit granting him the power to create and control thorny vines. His abilities include:

  • Wrapping vines around himself or binding multiple targets simultaneously
  • Generating oversized vines large enough to cover entire battlefields
  • Creating an enormous thorn-covered kanabō significantly larger than himself
  • Making thorns invisible to trap unsuspecting opponents
  • Injuring anyone who makes physical contact with vine-wrapped targets

Covenant Powers

Through a covenant with Imu (either the Depths Covenant or Abyssal Covenant), Sommers gained enhanced power and mystical abilities:

Abyss Navigation: Sommers bears a "mark" allowing him to summon magic circles for teleportation through the Abyss.

Immortality: Sommers possesses remarkable regenerative abilities, instantly healing from injuries. When Nico Robin snapped his spine, he recovered as if nothing happened. However, this power has limitations when Scopper Gaban severed his arm using Supreme King Haki, Sommers was shocked to find it wouldn't regenerate immediately. Though Gaban's attack significantly slowed his healing, Sommers eventually regenerated even after decapitation, though the process caused him considerable pain.

Haki

Sommers is a proficient Haki user. His arrival on Elbaph was marked by a massive burst of Haki resembling black lightning. Scopper Gaban sensed this energy and characterized it as abnormal.

Weaponry

Sommers carries a sword featuring a thorn-covered guard. Using his Devil Fruit powers, he can transform this weapon into a massive thorny kanabō, which he wielded effectively against Saul, maximizing damage with its numerous spikes.
