Known throughout the world as the "Accursed Prince" and the "Shame of Elbaph," Loki stands as one of the most controversial figures in the giant kingdom's history. The son of King Harald and Queen Estrid, and younger half-brother to Hajrudin, this prince's life has been marked by tragedy, misunderstanding, and a burden few could bear. Though believed by his people to have committed patricide for power, the truth behind Harald's death reveals a far more complex and heartbreaking story.
Loki proclaims himself the Sun God, a deity worshiped throughout Elbaph, and ominously claims he will be the one to "end the world." First mentioned during the Whole Cake Island Arc, he emerges as a major ally in the Elbaph Arc, his true nature slowly revealing itself to those willing to look beyond the surface.
Appearance and Physical Characteristics
Loki cuts an imposing figure even among giants, standing at a size comparable to the legendary ancient giant Oars. His appearance is striking and unmistakable: long, light magenta hair styled into twin braids at the front while remaining wild and unkempt in the back. His lanky frame belies his incredible strength, with muscular arms covered in vivid red tattoos that snake across his skin.
His face is equally distinctive, featuring a pointed goatee and a metallic shell covering his nose. A peculiar habit of his is leaving his tongue hanging out while speaking. Perhaps his most notable features are the long horns extending upward from his head an inheritance from his father's Ancient Giant bloodline with the left horn bound by wrapping. His eyes, unlike any other giant's, possess slit pupils set against black sclera, and are perpetually covered by bandages, a practice that began in his childhood.
Like most inhabitants of Elbaph, Loki dresses in Viking-inspired fashion. He wears a black, wide-rimmed helmet designed to accommodate his horns, complemented by dark gloves, pants, and boots. A purple fluffy cape drapes from his shoulders, and a distinctive belt bearing a crowned Jolly Roger adorns his waist. During his ill-fated proposal to Lola, he appeared in more regal attire a tall crown, tunic, and cape and briefly removed the wrappings from his eyes.
Power and Abilities
Authority and Influence
As prince of Elbaph, widely regarded as the strongest kingdom in the world, Loki once commanded tremendous authority. His royal status granted him privileges that even extended to proposing marriage to Charlotte Lola, the 23rd daughter of Big Mom a pirate emperor despised by the giants. Had the marriage succeeded, Loki possessed enough influence to end the giants' long-standing resentment toward her.
Following his imprisonment and criminal sentencing, however, Loki lost most of his royal privileges. Yet even in captivity, he maintains a devoted following of humans and commands the loyalty of wild beasts he befriended during his childhood. This allows him to pose a genuine threat to anyone who ventures into Elbaph's Underworld and manages to find him.
The World Government has placed a special bounty of 2,600,000,000 berries on Loki's head, though the exact nature of what makes this bounty "special" remains unknown. This designation has even led to him being offered a position among the elite Knights of God an offer he has repeatedly refused despite enduring torture for his defiance.
Willpower and Tactical Acumen
Loki possesses extraordinary willpower, demonstrated by his ability to withstand repeated torture from the Knights of God without breaking. As a child, he survived massive bursts of Supreme King Haki from both his father Harald and the legendary pirate Rocks D. Xebec during their duel in the Underworld.
His reputation as a cunning trickster is well-earned. When he noticed a connection between Monkey D. Luffy and Red-Haired Shanks, Loki deliberately provoked the young pirate by insulting Shanks, then leveraged his knowledge of Shanks' whereabouts to negotiate his freedom. After being wounded by the Knights of God and partially freed by Luffy and Zoro, he displayed remarkable acting skills by downplaying his severe injuries and bluffing that he was prepared to devastate Elbaph if not completely released all while barely able to stand.
Physical Prowess
At roughly the same size as the ancient giant Oars, Loki possesses strength that's exceptional even among giants. Elbaph's finest warriors were required to subdue and imprison him, and many believe he has enough power to destroy the world if ever freed. He considers himself the strongest warrior in all of Elbaph, a claim few would dare dispute given his track record.
His strength manifested from birth. As a newborn, he survived a catastrophic fall from Elbaph's Sun World to its Underworld, killed a large bear by decapitation, and then climbed back up the massive Treasure Tree Adam entirely on his own. By age ten, he single-handedly slaughtered numerous beasts in the Underworld and bent the survivors to his will.
His physical capabilities extend to remarkable speed and reflexes. Even while bound in chains and blindfolded, Loki can dodge a Gear 4 strike from Luffy at point-blank range. His endurance borders on supernatural he has survived nearly six years chained in seastone within the freezing Underworld, even managing a near-escape at one point. After being repeatedly beaten by Gunko's Devil Fruit powers and stabbed through the chest with multiple gigantic swords, he immediately stood after being freed, lifted his massive warhammer, and maintained his bluff of being battle-ready before finally succumbing to his wounds.
Remarkably, despite the weakening effects of seastone on Devil Fruit users, Loki claims that having only one leg trapped would do little to contain his power a boast he backs up by swinging his massive warhammer with ease.
Devil Fruit Powers
Loki has consumed an unnamed legendary Zoan-type Devil Fruit, revered by Elbaph's citizens. While its full capabilities remain shrouded in mystery, its power is undeniable. In his transformed state, Loki becomes so colossal he barely fits within the halls of Aurust Castle a structure built to house giants. His transformation grants him claws on his fingertips and allows him to dominate opponents with overwhelming force. During his battle with Harald, he easily overpowered his father, while even Shanks and Scopper Gaban, aided by the castle's giant guards, could only stall him. According to Loki, this Devil Fruit also grants him the ability to fly.
Haki Mastery
Loki stands among the elite few in the world capable of wielding Supreme King Haki, and he has mastered the advanced technique of infusing it into his attacks something only a "handful" of individuals can accomplish. When faced with his mind-controlled father Harald, who had entered the Depths Covenant with Imu, Loki's infused attacks managed to restore Harald's consciousness while slowing his regeneration. His final strike, delivered with Ragnir and reinforced with Supreme King Haki, proved powerful enough to kill an immortal being.
Interestingly, Loki initially seemed unaware of this particular property of his attacks until Gaban explained that Supreme King Haki is the key to defeating the supposedly immortal Knights of God. Upon learning this, Loki expressed confidence in his ability to defeat them.
Weapons
Loki's primary weapon is Ragnir, a massive warhammer that has itself consumed a Zoan-type Devil Fruit. When Loki swings this legendary weapon, he can summon gargantuan lightning bolts from the clouds to devastate whatever he strikes, or alternatively freeze his targets solid by encasing them in ice. The hammer itself was once a living creature a squirrel that challenged Loki and was defeated by him.
In the past, Loki wielded a more ornate warhammer that shattered during his fateful duel with Ragnir. As a child, he carried a large, spiked club during his rampages.
History
The Cursed Birth
Loki was born 63 years ago, shortly before the Winter Solstice Festival, in Aurust Castle. His arrival had been foretold or perhaps feared as his father Harald was believed to have prophesied that he would be killed by his son. The prophecy seemed to cast a shadow over Loki's birth from the very beginning.
When Queen Estrid first laid eyes on her newborn son, she was immediately repulsed. Rather than provide the maternal touch every infant craves, she threw Loki into the Underworld, attempting to end his life before it truly began. But Loki survived the fall and, with determination that would define his character, began climbing the massive Treasure Tree Adam back to the Sun World.
Following this traumatic event, Estrid fell ill. When infant Loki attempted to crawl into her bedroom, she had her guards bar his way and ordered them to cover his eyes the origin of the bandages he would wear for life. Shortly after, Estrid died, and Loki met his father Harald for the first time at her funeral. Yet by this point, at only a few months old, Loki had already abandoned all hope of receiving love.
With Harald constantly away at sea, Loki was left in the care of Estrid's older brother, who harbored deep hatred for the child and subjected him to abuse. Loki's response was swift and brutal he killed Estrid's prized horse, Asla. By the time he turned 15, his uncle was found dead in the Underworld.
A Childhood of Rage and Longing
As Loki grew, he embarked on destructive rampages throughout Elbaph whenever Harald was absent. Forty-eight years ago, accompanied by his animal companions, he attacked a village his father had recently rebuilt. His older half-brother Hajrudin rose to stop him, but Loki struck him down with a club, mocking Hajrudin's illegitimate parentage and Harald's ideals of pacifism.
Yet beneath the violence and cruelty lay a tragic truth: Loki rampaged in a desperate, futile attempt to replace the love he had never received. This realization drove him to attempt suicide by throwing himself into the Underworld. However, he proved too strong to die from the fall. Instead, he encountered someone who would change his life forever.
The Influence of Rocks D. Xebec
Immediately after his failed suicide attempt, Loki met Rocks D. Xebec and his crew of human pirates. Rocks had come seeking Harald, and when Loki revealed his father was away, the pirate captain told the boy to send a message that he was gravely wounded. When Loki refused, Rocks actually injured him with a sword strike, ensuring the message would be sent.
Harald returned to Elbaph to check on his son, surprising Loki that his father would do such a thing. He then overheard a conversation between Harald and Rocks in which the pirate captain revealed his dream of world conquest. This dream inspired Loki profoundly, giving him a new outlook on life and a goal beyond his pain.
Over the next four years, Loki repeatedly got into trouble, including nearly drowning when he tried to set out to sea on his own. Hajrudin's mother Ida showed him kindness, inviting him to live with her and Hajrudin in the village, but Loki refused. He wanted to live freely, like Rocks.
Every time Rocks returned to Elbaph to recruit Harald to his crew, Loki begged to join him. Every time, Rocks refused. Loki even challenged Rocks once, only to be brutalized for his audacity. Despite this, or perhaps because of it, Loki continued to idolize the pirate. He once told Rocks that he believed him to be Nika, and Rocks revealed he was seeking Harald to lead the legendary Galleila band.
Forty years ago, Loki watched as the friendship between Harald and Rocks ended in a violent confrontation. For two years after, he followed Rocks' exploits through newspapers, waiting for the pirate to return to Elbaph. He never did. Thirty-eight years ago, Loki read about Rocks' death on God Valley and openly wept.
The Only Mother He Knew
Shortly after learning of Rocks' demise, Harald gathered both Loki and Hajrudin, expressing his hope that they would work together to support Elbaph in his absence. Twenty-three years later, when Ida fell ill, Loki delivered her a bull to eat so he could continue hanging out at her bar.
While in Estrid's hometown of Brewers Village, Loki discovered a horrifying truth: the residents had poisoned Ida to prevent her from ever becoming queen. Consumed by rage, Loki attacked and burned down the entire village, declaring that Ida was the only mother he had ever known. He was imprisoned for this act of vengeance and silently mourned when Ida died.
The Death of Harald
Fourteen years ago, Loki was summoned to Aurust Castle by his father. At the castle entrance, he briefly argued with the ancient giant Jarul about Harald's pacifistic reforms before impetuously kicking down the throne room door. What he saw inside stopped him cold: Harald was being impaled by several of his own guards.
Harald regenerated from these wounds and retaliated against his attackers before clashing with his confused son. Together, Loki and Jarul managed to pin Harald to the ground, and the king confessed a terrible truth: the World Government had tricked him and was on the verge of using him as a puppet to enslave Elbaph's population as soldiers.
Harald made a desperate request: he asked Jarul to feed Elbaph's treasured Devil Fruit to Loki, and then asked Loki to kill him and take the throne. As Loki headed toward the treasure, Harald lost his mind again and pursued his son with murderous intent, slaying many guards in his madness.
Loki reached the treasure room first, finding a chest and the hammer Ragnir. To his shock, Ragnir attacked him on its own. Unable to reach the chest while Ragnir barred his way, Loki was forced to confront the animate weapon. As Ragnir spun toward him, Loki met it with his own Supreme King Haki-infused hammer in a tremendous collision that shattered his weapon. Ragnir transformed into a beaten squirrel, and recognizing Loki's strength guided him to the chest containing the Devil Fruit.
After consuming the fruit, Loki transformed into an enormous creature and confronted Harald. In this form, he easily overpowered and gravely wounded his father. As Loki returned to his giant form and prepared to deliver the final blow with Ragnir, Harald regained his sanity. The king expressed pride in his son and even thanked him for showing his love for Ida through his actions against Brewers Village.
Loki expressed bitter resentment at being forced to kill his father. Harald told his son he loved him. With tears streaming down his face, Loki struck Harald in the chest with a Supreme King Haki-infused blow from Ragnir, successfully killing the immortal king.
The Burden of Truth
After Harald's death, Loki sat weeping over his father's body, remarking bitterly on the fate sustained by a king who loved his country. He later informed Jarul, Scopper Gaban, and Shanks that he would take the surviving guards and head out to sea, forsaking his father's wish for him to lead Elbaph. He knew he could not tell the kingdom what truly happened, and he forbade anyone else from revealing the truth. Instead, he wished to use his powers to avenge his father and the soldiers he had been forced to kill.
Loki went to sea, allowing Elbaph to believe the worst of him that he had murdered his father for personal gain. Over the next eight years, he attained significant infamy and earned one of the world's highest bounties. During this time, he encountered Charlotte Lola, daughter of the Four Emperor Big Mom, and immediately professed his love for her. Big Mom arranged their marriage, but Lola fled. When Big Mom attempted to substitute Lola's twin sister Chiffon in her place, Loki saw through the deception, and no marriage took place.
Six years ago, Shanks captured Loki and brought him back to Elbaph, where the kingdom's warriors subdued him and prepared to execute him by crucifixion. Thanks to Jarul's pleas for clemency, Loki was instead imprisoned in the Underworld, bound to the Adam Tree with seastone chains. Despite his solitude, he rallied the beasts of the Underworld and gained followers among humans who were enemies of Elbaph. He also possessed a Snow Den Den Mushi that allowed him to communicate with a mysterious figure named Mosa, whom he had never met in person.
Current Events: The Elbaph Arc
Meeting Luffy
Loki's isolation ended when Monkey D. Luffy stumbled upon him in the Underworld. The two shared their names and aspirations, and Loki revealed the nature of his imprisonment. He offered to eliminate any rival crew of Luffy's choosing if the pirate would acquire the key to his chains. When one of Loki's human underlings mentioned Shanks, and Luffy recognized the name, Loki deliberately insulted the red-haired pirate.
The provocation worked. Luffy launched a powerful Gear 4 punch that Loki dodged despite being bound and blindfolded. When Luffy demanded to know why Shanks had been in Elbaph, Loki stated he would not share that information for nothing. Luffy agreed to retrieve the key in exchange for information about Shanks, including the pirate's current location. Loki instructed him not to tell anyone about their meeting.
The Knights of God
Shortly after his conversation with Luffy, Loki received a visit from two Knights of God: Figarland Shamrock and Gunko. They offered him a position among their ranks, which he immediately rejected, ordering a nearby wolf to attack them. Gunko strangled the wolf, and when Shamrock suggested Loki might reconsider to save the animal's life, Loki refused again.
Gunko then began a brutal assault, conjuring arrows to strike and impale Loki while subduing more of his beast companions. Despite the pain, Loki's will did not waver. As Shamrock and Gunko prepared to leave, Loki noted that Shamrock looked identical to Shanks. The Knight revealed that Shanks was his estranged twin brother. Loki promised that the Knights would feel his wrath once he was freed. In response, Shamrock had his sword Cerberus transform into a three-headed canine that impaled Loki through the chest with three blades before the Knights departed.
Freedom and Truth
When Luffy and Roronoa Zoro arrived with the key, they found Loki incapacitated from his wounds. As Luffy began unlocking the chains, the New Giant Warrior Pirates and Sanji fell into the Underworld. Hajrudin warned against freeing Loki, but with only his left ankle still chained, Loki stood and grabbed Ragnir.
Bluffing that he remained at full strength, Loki struck the Adam Tree, summoning lightning that ignited areas in the Sun World above. He boasted he would continue this destruction until fully freed. Luffy moved to attack, but Loki's bluff failed as he collapsed from his wounds.
The giant Gerd quickly tended to his injuries while Hajrudin contemplated killing his brother for their father's murder. Upon regaining consciousness, Loki asked his brother to consider their surroundings and questioned whether Hajrudin truly believed he had killed Harald with murder in his heart.
Later, after eating food prepared by the pirates, Loki refused to tell Luffy about Shanks until he was fully freed. He acknowledged that he had idolized a pirate much like Luffy idolized Shanks a reference to his relationship with Rocks D. Xebec.
When Elbaph came under attack by the Knights of God and mysterious monsters, a powerful burst of Supreme King Haki erupted from the Sun World, felt even in the Underworld. Loki declared the others would surely need his help. As the pirates prepared to head toward the Sun World, Loki having understood Gaban's earlier words about the Knights and their immortality pointed out that he had the experience to assist in battle and demanded Hajrudin free him.
Hajrudin refused, saying he could not trust the brother who killed their father. Luffy then intervened by offering Loki a place in his crew, which the giant refused in outrage. However, Gaban advocated for Loki based on what he had witnessed on the day of Harald's death, suggesting Loki should tell his brother the truth.
Despite the trauma it brought back, Loki reluctantly shared his account of Harald's death. After hearing the full story, Hajrudin accepted that Loki was absolved from blame and unlocked his remaining chain, apologizing for doubting his love for their father.
Immediately, a Draugr MMA dropped into the Underworld. Free for the first time in six years, Loki leaped into the air with Luffy on his shoulder and struck the creature with Ragnir, encasing it in ice. The Accursed Prince had returned to battle.
Cultural References and Trivia
Loki's character draws heavily from Norse mythology. He shares his name with the Norse god of mischief, though his role may also reference Utgard-Loki, a giant who rules Utgard in Jotunheim, the homeland of the giants. His tall horns may be inspired by the iconic headgear worn by Marvel Comics' Loki Laufeyson.
His imprisonment for killing a high-status figure mirrors the Norse god Loki's imprisonment for his role in the death of Baldr an event that would trigger Ragnarök, the prophesied series of battles and disasters leading to the world's destruction. His bandaged eyes may reference how the Norse god Loki was punished by having his eyes burned by serpent venom during his captivity.
Interestingly, a distorted construct of Loki was created using the Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Kirin abilities possessed by Rimoshifu Killingham. This imitation, born from a child's fearful imagination at the Walrus School, appeared with a full beard and wielded a thin sword alongside a simplified version of Ragnir. Scopper Gaban noted this construct was significantly weaker than the original, likely because it was created from a child's limited understanding of Loki's true strength.
Conclusion
Loki stands as a tragic figure whose life has been defined by rejection, misunderstanding, and the unbearable burden of truth. Born to a mother who tried to kill him, raised by an uncle who abused him, and ultimately forced to kill a father who finally showed him love, Loki's path has been one of profound suffering. Yet through it all, he has endured, his strength unbroken even after six years of imprisonment in the frozen depths of the Underworld.
The "Accursed Prince" may yet prove to be Elbaph's salvation rather than its destruction. As he joins the battle against the Knights of God, the truth of his actions slowly emerging from the shadows of deception, Loki's true character loyal, grieving, and far more complex than his legend suggests finally comes to light. Whether he will fulfill his claim to "end the world" or become one of its unlikely saviors remains to be seen.
