Oda is really a genius in conveying touching moments like these. Love and strong bonds will always overcome hatred. I feel like it’s really easy to identify where oda’s real life has impacted the story. Things like this clearly seemed pulled from his real emotions concerning his own children. I don't know if I have a cold dead heart or what, because so often people comment on this or that panel making them cry. I appreciate the emotional heft of these stories but that never really happens to me. I thought it had great pacing.

A little moment for all the kids and their guardians but nothing lingering. Enough panels to make you really hate sommers. Then the reveal. What more pace do they want? Just all the one panel flashbacks cut as they boringly walk off the cliff? I'm honestly so glad oda doesn't listen to online fans most of the time. This is one of the reasons why one piece is so much better when you can read long sections at a time and not week to week. If you were to just read this chapter and then read 10 more immediately it wouldn't bother you that if not that much happened in 1 chapter, if it was still interesting. I've read one piece weekly for almost 20 years, but it does give you a somewhat distorted view of the story. Despite releasing weekly it's meat to be read as one big whole.

Not only did the falling MMA destroy the ship the knights were planning on using, it also destroyed the Sea Clouds underneath it, leaving a gaping hole leading down to the Underworld, and with Gunko's arrow still in effect, the children will walk off the edge and fall to their deaths below. Sommers tries to contact Gunko and tell her to stop the arrow so they can figure out a new strategy, but remembers that Imu is currently controlling her, so it will not be possible. The parents of the children reach them and try to destroy the arrow, but none of their weapons work, with Sommers even adding that if destroying it was that easy, he would have done so already. Just then, a demented idea enters Sommers' head: since the parents of these children are unable to get within arms length due to his thorns, they will be forced to watch them fall to their deaths, which he finds very entertaining.
