I feel pretty sure that certain old monsters/devils like loki's fruit had an original real version that chose to pass its powers onto someone worthy after they died. Sort of like an inherited will, they chose death over clinging onto life but still wanted to pass down their abilities to future generations. While tests like ragnir may exist to prevent a fruit from being eaten, you still need to prove your worth to the devil, in body and mind, before it will awaken. All that tangent to say this chapter made me think of an old one piece world where huge beings like oars, nidhog, and nika roamed the planet fighting each other like the beasts on rusukaina aha.

Maybe some of those old beasts chose not to reincarnate as devil fruits but maintained a more rigorous test of loyalty like devil imu and their sea contracts. Instead of withholding an awakening until certain conditions are met, a full slate of abilities are granted in exchange for essentially a slave contract. Like how the impel down beasts are forced into awakening, imu forces a person to awaken abilities in exchange for their will. Basically the opposite of the dreamlike wonders of devil fruits as seen by vegapunks mind. Not being able to swim versus full obedience to the great one's whims!

And that all comes back to love, 'the strongest in the world'. As garp said, you save the younglings and leave the old guy to die ahahaha. Can you give up your life for the future generations like ripley and others did or do you see love as an exploitable connection like sommers? It took courage and love for gods like nika and nidhog to give up their powers freely to be unlocked by future generations. Loki and luffy will absolutely rise to the challenge. They love friends and family deeply and will do their best to liberate the people and destroy the world!

Sommers tries to contact Gunko and tell her to stop the arrow so they can figure out a new strategy, but remembers that Imu is currently controlling her, so it will not be possible. The parents of the children reach them and try to destroy the arrow, but none of their weapons work, with Sommers even adding that if destroying it was that easy, he would have done so already. Just then, a demented idea enters Sommers' head: since the parents of these children are unable to get within arms length due to his thorns, they will be forced to watch them fall to their deaths, which he finds very entertaining.
