‘Hairspray’ star Nikki Blonksy comes out in Diana Ross lip-sync video

How very on-brand!

“Hairspray” star Nikki Blonsky has come out as gay via the social media platform TikTok, using a video of herself lip-syncing to Diana Ross’ iconic queer anthem “I’m Coming Out.”

“Hi, it’s Nikki Blonsky from the movie I’m Gay!” Blonsky, 31, captioned the clip, which also went out via her Twitter. Blonsky also made the announcement on her Instagram account in a slightly less musical but more succinct post.

Blonsky starred in the 2007 remake of John Waters’ classic flick, eventually becoming a meme in 2016 thanks to her constant invoking of that fact on social media.

It’s been slightly over a year since Blonsky revealed that she was in a relationship with a non-binary individual named Dani, saying that she was “the happiest I’ve ever been.”

Blonsky had something of a difficult time navigating life post-“Hairspray,” with her show “Huge” getting canceled and a rom-com she had a role in, “Waiting for Forever,” earning a critical savaging.

By 2011, she was selling shoes in her hometown of Great Neck on Long Island. But she picked up work on TV via “Smash” in 2013 and has worked sporadically since then, with her most recent appearance in the TV series “Quarantine.”
